Hawks 7, New Germany 3

The Hawks busted it open with a 5 run, 5 hit 7th inning after the Dutchmen briefly took the lead. Matt Schwichtenberg and Taylor Peters lead the offense with 2 hits each. Dereck Wolter (2 rbi double) and Jeff Hancock (triple) had big hits in the decisive 7th. Mike Mueller went 7 for the win with Darran Greene finishing it out.

Loretto Larks Win Green Isle/Hamburg Miller Lite Tourney

The Loretto Larks had a great day of baseball beating both the Hastings Hawks and Green Isle Irish to win the Miller Lite Invite. The Edina Esox captured the Consolation trophy with a win over Fergus Falls. Veteran lefty Tom Traen was named tourney MVP.

Hawks miss big chance to advance in the standings by dropping one at Hoese Field. Hoese is pronounced hazy and rhymes with lazy and those two words sum up a lifeless Hawk squad on this day.  Only bright spot was a Jeff Hancock 2 run homer in the sixth.

Mike Mueller made his first start of the year and held the Red Devils to one run in six innings of work. The Hawks struck for 2 in the 5th and added a run in both the 7th and 8th to seal out the victory. Jon Deming went 2-4 with an rbi to lead the Hawks from the plate.

Hawk 11, St. Boni 0 (7 Innings)
Darran Greene pitched and hit the Hawks to a quick win on a great day for baseball at Hawk Field. Greene pitched 5 innings giving up 2 hits and no runs and went 2-2 with 2 doubles and 2 rbi.  Andy Schatz went the rest of the way to secure the shut-out.  Andrew Fredrickson (3-3), Justin Perlich (3-4, rbi) and Aron Peters (2-3) led the 14 hit Hawk attack.

Hawks 2, Cologne 1
Hawks squeak by Hollanders by slimest of margins. Matt Schwichtenberg continued his hot hitting with 2 doubles and both Hawk rbi. Andrew Fredrickson got his first start of the year and went 7 for the win. Mike Mueller picked up a save with his two innings of work.

Hawks 1, Savage 10
Not much to say about this one. The Hawks got roughed up as a very tough Savage club hit bullets all over Hawk Field. Just about every Hawk saw action with Marcus Lane and Mitch Kelzer getting their first mound time of the year. Nate Murphy also got his first action as a Hawk in the outfield and 2B, Welcome Nate!

Darran Greene pitched 6 strong innings and the Hawks slumbering offense awoke as they took a 7-1 decision from the Indians.  Matt Schwictenberg went 2-3 and Jon Demming 2-5 on the night.  Andrew Fredrickson had a big 2 run double to cap off a big 6th for the Hawks.

In a briskly played 1 hour and 45 minute game, a big crowd saw the Hawks and Cards combine to turn 6 double plays. Darran Greene (7), Mike Mueller (1) and Andrew Fredrickson (1) would combine on the 2 hit shutout to scratch out the win. Greene also provided the game winning rbi with a hit in the fifth.

Hawks 0, Carver 4
The Hawks continue to struggle to score runs as they drop a 0-4 decision to the Carver Black Sox. The home team wasted a strong 7-inning outing by Andy Schatz as they could not deliver the key 2-out hit. Justin Perlich collected two hits for the Hawks.

Hawks 1, Plato 2  (11 innings)
If you said that the Hawks would strike out 19 times and commit 4 errors against Plato, you would have expected to be home in time for the ten o'clock news. That wasn't the case as Hawk hurlers were up to the task in this extra inning pitching dual. Darran Greene got the start and went five scattering 3 hits and giving up 0 runs. Andrew Fredrickson went 4 also giving up three hits and an unearned run. Aron Peters finished up and ended up taking the loss. Plato starter Chris Odegaard deserves mention as he recorded 13 Ks in 7 innings of work.  Matt Schwichtenberg collected 2 of the Hawks 4 hits on the night.

Hawks 8, Norwood 11
Hawks were cruising along after 6 1/2 with an 8-3 lead when the bottom dropped out. Hawk wildness opened the door for timely Norwood hitting, as the Indians put up a 6 spot in the 6th and another 2 in the seventh to ice the win.

Hawks 6, Cologne 2
Justin Perlich, Andrew Fredrickson and Drew Gulden all collected 2 hits as the Hawks took care of business in Cologne.  Matt Schwictenberg made his return to the Hawk line-up with a 2 rbi double in the 3rd. Craig Allison and Darran Greene both worked 4 innings with Greene gaining the win. Andy Schatz worked the ninth for his first action of the year.

Hawks could only muster 4 hits against the usual suspects (Shaffler, Zachow, Breyer). Justin Perlich had two of the four hits. Craig Allison, Mike Mueller, Darran Greene and Andrew Fredrickson all got innings for the Hawks with Allison getting the loss. The Irish produced 10 hits and were also helped by three Hawk errors.
